AccentSports Basketball

If your goal is to develop and refine your basketball skills, performance and techniques, and achieve peak conditioning to perform at your best, then AccentSports is dedicated to you. Basketball is one of the “big four” major-league team sports. It is also very popular at the college and high school level.

Basketball was invented in December 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian-born physical education professor and instructor at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was trying to create an activity to keep his gym class active. He wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto a 10-foot (3.05 m) elevated track as part of the court. The peach baskets were used until 1906 when they were replaced by metal hoops with backboards. A year after the Springfield YMCA game, basketball spread to local colleges, and by the 1920′s had spread to high schools in the United States.

At our focus is on youth and amateur basketball. Our goal is to help young athletes develop the skills, techniques, strategies and fitness levels to excel at basketball, and to play at their peak level of performance.

Basketball quickly became a popular sport at the youth, middle school, high school and college levels. It also became very popular as a back street sport requiring little more than a hoop, ball and slab of concrete. The primary benefit of basketball is in providing excellent physical exercise, while developing both individual and team skills. Basketball develops speed, strength and cardiovascular health. It promotes the individual, but requires team coordination and effort to win.
